Gaston College to close fall baseball drills with Rhinos World Series

Gaston College's baseball program will close out its 2022 fall drills with a best-of-three Rhinos World Series next week at Gastonia's Sims Legion Park.

The teams were split into Team Mac for assistant coach K.J. McAllister and Team Rand for assistant coach Jacob Rand.

The Rhinos, who will begin their 2023 season on Jan. 29 with a 1 p.m. home doubleheader against Roane State Community College, will play two seven-inning games at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. If a third game if necessary, it'll be a seven-inning game on Friday at 4 p.m.

Team Mac is composed of sophomore pitchers J.D. Everett, Derek Vartanian, Darrell Johnson and Hunter Shew, sophomore infielders Miller St. John and Preston Hall, sophomore outfielder Wade Kelly, freshman pitchers Landon Carr and J.J. Devos, freshman catchers Seth Christmas and Elijah Jordan, freshman infielders Nathan Williams and Chase Ketner, freshman outfielders Jack Starke and freshman pitcher-outfielder Shane Thorson and freshman infielder-outfielder Andrew Muraco.

Team Rand is composed of sophomore pitchers Kyle McKernan, Jaxson Mangum, Tyler Parks and Dusty Sanderlin, sophomore catcher Pierson Gunnell, sophomore infielders Enrique Wood, Matthew Dobson and Adam Quintero, sophomore outfielder Trenton Snyder, freshman pitchers Nolan Staniero, Sawyer Sutton and Antwan Walton, freshman outfielders Korbin Pettigrew and Trey Truitt and freshman infielder-outfielder Freddie Oliver.

Gaston College went 41-9 overall last season, won the Region 10 West Division regular season and earned national rankings in the school's first season of athletics since 1972 last spring.
