Gaston College's Adam Quintero named NJCAA honorable mention All-American
Gaston College's baseball team earned its first official National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honor on Monday.
Sophomore Adam Quintero was named honorable mention NJCAA All-American.
Quintero, who was named Region 10 player of the year, led the Rhinos in batting average (.399) and was second on the team in home runs (10) and RBIs (64).
Gaston College just completed a historic 50-13 season with a 5th-place finish in the NJCAA World Series.
Competing in NJCAA postseason play for the first time in school history, the Rhinos won the Region 10 postseason tournament title and the East District tournament title the school hosted at Gastonia's Sims Legion Park.
The 50 wins made Gaston College only the eighth team in Region 10 history to reach 50 victories in a single season - and first since 2009.
Previous Region 10 teams to reach victories are Louisburg (51-11) and Spartanburg Methodist (51-10) in 2002, Spartanburg Methodist (50-16) in 2003, Spartanburg Methodist (54-15) in 2007, Lenoir Community College (54-12) in 2008 and Spartanburg Methodist (55-9) and USC Sumter (52-11) in 2009.
