Gaston College's David Sande named All-American
Gaston College's baseball team earned its third National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honor on Tuesday.
David Sande was named second team All-American relief pitcher by the www.thejbb.net website.
Sande had a 0-0 record and 3.86 ERA in 22 appearances this season with 46 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.
Gaston College just completed a historic 50-13 season with a 5th-place finish in the NJCAA World Series.
Competing in NJCAA postseason play for the first time in school history, the Rhinos won the Region 10 postseason tournament title and the East District tournament title the school hosted at Gastonia's Sims Legion Park.
The 50 wins made Gaston College only the eighth team in Region 10 history to reach 50 victories in a single season - and first since 2009.
Previous Region 10 teams to reach victories are Louisburg (51-11) and Spartanburg Methodist (51-10) in 2002, Spartanburg Methodist (50-16) in 2003, Spartanburg Methodist (54-15) in 2007, Lenoir Community College (54-12) in 2008 and Spartanburg Methodist (55-9) and USC Sumter (52-11) in 2009.
Sande, a sophomore from Raleigh, has signed to play for Radford University of the Big South Conference.
Previous All-Americans for the Rhinos have been 2022 3rd team thejbb.net selection Konni Durschlag and 2023 NJCAA honorable mention pick Adam Quintero.
