Gaston College sharpshooter named to All-Region 10 team

Gaston College's 3-point sharpshooter Dee Merriweather was named first team All-Region 10 on Tuesday in voting done by league coaches.

A 6-foot point guard from Memphis, Tennessee, Merriweather becomes the 13th all-conference honoree in Gaston College history - and second since the school restarted its athletic program last year.

Merriweather is the Rhinos' leading scorer at 11.2 points per game and his 77 made 3-pointers led Region 10 in the regular season.

"Dee has been the guy who came into our program from day one and did it the right way on and off the court - a 3.0 student and a hard worker on the court," Gaston College head coach Jamie Rosser said. "Dee is the type of person every coach needs in his program. I'm glad he's getting some fruits from his labor and earning 1st Team all-Region is well deserved. I'm proud of how he's developing as a person and as a player who has much more in store for himself."

Previous all-conference selections in Gaston College history in 11 players from the old North Carolina Community College Conference from 1969 to 1972 and two from Region 10 the last two years.
