Gaston College's seventh straight win keeps Rhinos near top of Region 10 standings

Gaston College completed a grueling stretch of four games in eight days with a perfect record on Saturday afternoon after its 118-94 win over Cape Fear Community College at Gastonia's Ashbrook High School.

The victory was the Rhinos seventh straight and improved their seasonal record to 24-3 overall and 9-2 in Region 10.

"We were worried about their 3-point shooting," said Gaston College coach Benny Moss, whose team avenged an 87-78 loss at Cape Fear Community earlier this season. "They had 20 made 3s against Caldwell and 14 against Salkehatchie so we knew they were a good shooting team.
"We didn't do as well as I would've like in the first half but we improved in the second half."

The visiting Sea Devils made six of 15 3-pointers in the first half and four of 12 in the second half as the Rhinos trailed for only 1 1/2 minutes in the opening half before 14 straight points gave Gaston College its first double digit lead at 19-8 with 14:36 before halftime.

After taking a 54-40 lead at the break, the Rhinos would build as much as a 33-point lead before taking the 24-point victory.

Kaleb Siler had a monster game of 28 points and 14 rebounds to lead yet another balanced Gaston College attack.

Other standouts were Ryan Evans (14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Tony Goodman (12 points), Kush Carter (10 points, 4 rebounds), E.J. Joyner 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists), DeAngelo Canty (9 points, 7 rebounds), Jozohn Price (8 points), Tremell Dunlap (7 points on 7-8 free throw shooting in the final 3:07 of the game) and J.R. Watson (6 points, 7 assists).

The Rhinos return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at USC Salkehatchie before closing out their regular season with their home finale on March 1 at 2 p.m. against league-leading Brunswick Community College at the Ashbrook gymnasium and road finale at Caldwell Tech on March 5 at 6 p.m.

"It's one game at a time, one day at a time," Moss said. "We've got a day off tomorrow since we're finishing up four games in eight days. And we'll come back Monday, address some issues from today's game and get ready for a really challenging road game at Salkehatchie."
