Gaston College basketball takes top honors on 2026 All-Region 10 team

After winning its first Region 10 regular season title in school history, Gaston College's basketball team has been honored with top postseason honors.

Sophomore Kaleb Siler was named Region 10 player of the year, newcomer of the year and first team all-league, Benny Moss was named coach of the year and sophomores Ryan Evans and E.J. Joyner were named second team all-league. The selections were the result of voting by the league's eight head coaches.

Siler, from Fayetteville, averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds to finish second in Region 10 in both categories while leading the Rhinos to a 27-3 overall record and 12-2 Region 10 mark that gives the school its first regular season title since 1972.

"It feels good," said Siler, who has received more than 10 scholarships from four-year colleges. "At the beginning of the season, I prayed for this and worked hard for a good season."

Moss is in his second year as Gaston College head coach.

Evans, from Charlotte, averaged 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

And Joyner, from Newport News, Va., averaged 14.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game; His assist average was third in Region 10.

"Anytime you get individual awards, it's the sum of the group," Moss said. "These guys wouldn't have been all-conference and player of the year and I wouldn't have been coach of the year if not for the success of the team.
"Coach of the year is a reflection of my staff and our players. This isn't about me because none of this is possible without a great staff and without the players and what they accomplished."

Gaston College has previously had seven honorees in the old N.C. Community College Conference and five All-Region 10 selections. The school had never previously won any top individual awards.

The Rhinos receive a bye in the Region 10 tournament at South Prince George, Va., on the campus of Richard Bland College later this week. Gaston College opens play in Friday's 2 p.m. semifinal against the winner of Thursday's Caldwell Tech-Richard Bland 1 p.m. quarterfinal.

Should the Rhinos win their semifinal, they play in Saturday's 1 p.m. Region 10 championship game that sends its winner to the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, from March 21 to 28.
