Gaston College releases 40-game schedule for inaugural 2022 softball season

Gaston College's first-year softball program has announced a 40-game schedule of 20 doubleheaders for head coach Michael Steuerwald.

The Rhinos will play 10 home doubleheaders at Gastonia's Martha Rivers Park.

Gaston College will compete in the highly-competitive North Junior College Athletic Assocition Division II of Region 10 that includes two-time defending champion Louisburg.

Louisburg won the 2021 Region 10 and South Atlantic district championships and finished third in the NJCAA Division II World Series in Oxford, Ala.

This season, all Region 10 teams will compete for the regular season title before holding a conference tournament in mid-May.

"We are excited to finally be able to step on the field this year," Steuerwald said. "The ladies have been working hard over the fall to get ready and we are looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off.
"As we look to continue to grow this program it will be great to compete against some of the top teams in the region and the nation to see where we need to continue to work and build to get this team where we want it to be year in and year out."

The season opener will be at home at Martha Rivers Park on Feb. 19 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against USC Union.

The first conference games will also be at home on March 5 against nearby Cleveland Community College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

The Rhinos also plays conference doubleheaders against Southwest Virginia, Camp, Bryant & Stratton, Wake Tech, Pitt Community College, Brunswick Community College, Southeastern Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, Caldwell Tech, Louisburg, Richard Bland, Surry Community College, Patrick & Henry, Fayetteville Tech and Florence-Darlington Tech.
