Gaston College's softball team continues to enjoy setting history this season as seven Rhinos were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-Americans.

Tessa Hunt, Kinsey Johnson, Logan Lilly, McKenzie Plaskin, Asheton Queen, Amiya Tomlinson and Jailyn Tineo were the players to be so honored from coach Mike Steuerwald's team.

Hunt is a freshman from Lincolnton, Johnson a freshman from Statesville, Lilly a freshman from Rutherfordton, Plaskin a sophomore from Pompano Beach, Fla., Queen a sophomore from Belmont, Tomlinson a freshman from Blackshear, Ga., and Tineo a sophomore from Waxhaw.

"We take a lot of pride in being successful on and off the field and these seven have exemplified that through their hard work in the classroom," Steuerwald said. "We love that they are being recognized for their efforts with this honor."

All seven also were among the nine Rhinos honored on the Region 10 all-academic team.

They were honored after Gaston College finished 43-10 overall after winning the Region 10 regular season title, the Region 10 tournament, the Mid-Atlantic District tournament to advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series in Oxford, Ala.
