No. 13 Gaston College closes regular season with Region 10 history, rare unbeaten league record

No. 13 Gaston College's softball team kept setting records as it wrapped its 2025 regular season with a doubleheader sweep victory at Florence Darlington Tech on Sunday.

The Rhinos improved to 55-3 overall and 22-0 in Region 10 Division I play entering the Region 10 championship tournament that begins on Friday at Tyger Park in Spartanburg, S.C.

The 55 victories ties Spartanburg Methodist's 2016 team for most wins in a season in Region 10 Division I history. And the 22-0 league mark is the first unbeaten record since Spartanburg Methodist's 2016 team went 19-0 in its regular season title run.

In the opener, ace pitcher Kristyn Ezzo saw her Region 10 Division I scoreless innings streak come to an end at 48 2/3 innings with one out in the bottom of the first inning of the 15-1 victory in the opener. In the nightcap, Savanna Mullins threw a 9-0 one-hit victory.

Both games were shortened to five innings by the "mercy" rule.

"We played well again today," Gaston College coach Mike Steuerwald said. "Our offense did a great job up and down the lineup.
"We were hoping Ezzo could go the whole conference season without giving up a run but she gave up a run in that first game. And Mullins came in and did a great job with a one-hitter in Game 2."

Skye Harrington (4 hits, 2 doubles, home run, 6 RBIs), Grace Kealy (3 hits, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs), Alayna Patrick (3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Mary Hinson (3 hits, double, 1 RBI), Katelyn Brandon (2 hits) and Savanna Price (2 hits, triple) led Gaston College's offense that racked up 21 hits on Sunday.

The Rhinos next play in the Region 10 championship tournament on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Tyger Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
