Gaston College has 8 softball players commit to play for 4-year colleges

Following its historic season, eight players who led Gaston College to 63-5 record, Region 10 championship and fourth-place National Junior College Athletic Association World Series fourth place finish will be playing at four-year colleges.

Coach Mike Steuerwald's program, which has produced 12 four-year collegiate performers in its three years, will send five two-year Rhinos' to four-year schools and three one-year players.

The two-year standouts who have signed or committed to play college softball are Abigail Brewton (Newberry), Kendall Bradshaw (Appalachian State), Skye Harrington (Francis Marion), Grace Kealy (Campbell) and Alayna Patrick (Belmont Abbey) and the one-year standouts are Kristyn Ezzo (Augusta), Sarah Johnson (N.C. State) and Savanna Price (Lander).

Bradshaw, Ezzo, Johnson and Patrick were All-American selections, with Patrick being named Region 10 player of the year, Ezzo Region 10 pitcher of the year and Bradshaw, Ezzo, Harrington, Johnson, Kealy and Patrick earning All-Region 10 honors for a team that set a school record for victories and highest national finish in school history.

"We are proud of this group and the future opportunities they have created for themselves," Steuerwald said. "To have all of our sophomores receive offers to play at the next level says a lot about the group and how hard they worked. I'm excited to see each of them contribute to the success of their new programs and continue to make Rhino nation proud."
